Ignorance and Oedipus

People, due to their ignorance, do not recognize how orphans are underprivileged and abused. Many kids are beat and do not get the basic necessities. Foster parents or orphan care providers mistreat and cannot provide for these children. Up to 80 percent of orphans have emotional problems. A study conducted by the Trenton, New Jersey foster care system says 1 in 5 kids are abused by their foster parents. The startling thing is “about 397,000 children are in out-of-home care in the U.S.” (Couch). That means 79,400 foster kids live in an abusive environment. Children in an abusive environment can be emotionally and physically scarred for life. Children are killed in foster care. Abuse of the children can lead them to make poor decisions. Many people do not understand the quantity of  kids that are involved in abusive foster care. Just like Oedipus, who was ignorant to his situation with his parents, people do not know this many children are being abused daily. By understanding you situation and the large scale of the problem, people can understand how this effects the lives of many children. If people become more aware of this growing and large problem, many young kids can be saved from abuse.
